EG.D and utility network statements: what you should know
In southern Bohemia and southern Moravia, the electrical grid is not managed by ČEZ Distribuce but by EG.D: a company that many people still know under its former brand E.ON Distribuce. You request a utility network statement from them just as rigorously as from ČEZ, only on a different portal.
When you need a utility network statement EG.D
A utility network statement from EG.D is required for new builds, connections, excavation work or even minor construction near power lines, just as with any other electricity distributor. The designer needs it for the site plan; the building authority requires it to confirm that the proposal does not conflict with third-party infrastructure. On top of that, without this statement you must not dig near cables unless you have verified their exact location.
Who is EG.D and why does it have a different name than before?
EG.D is the successor brand of the distribution company previously known to the public as E.ON Distribuce. It operates electrical lines in parts of the Czech Republic, and its customers and affected builders include those with land in the South Bohemian or South Moravian regions. The renaming changes nothing regarding operations or the builder's obligations: a utility network statement is requested just as with any other distributor.
Territorial scope of EG.D
EG.D covers South Bohemia and South Moravia, while ČEZ Distribuce manages the networks across most of the rest of the country, and PREdistribuce in Prague and Roztoky. The boundaries of these areas roughly follow the regions, but for properties on the edge of a zone it is worth verifying which distributor is actually responsible, otherwise you will send your request to the wrong address and unnecessarily delay the process.
For designers working on projects in various regions, this means keeping a record of which distributor to contact for each location, for repeat orders in one region, the portal and form quickly become routine, while for a new area it is necessary to verify the relevant jurisdiction again.
How to request a utility network statement from EG.D
EG.D offers an electronic application for a utility network statement on its website. egd.czThe procedure is similar to that of other distributors:
- On the website, fill in the application form and mark out the area of interest: the plot and its immediate surroundings.
- State the purpose of the request (new build, connection, project documentation) and contact details.
- EG.D will deliver the response electronically, usually including a utility network statement and protection conditions.
EG.D issues the utility network statement free of charge, as do other major electricity distributors.
What an EG.D utility network statement contains
As with other electricity distributors, the utility network statement includes a map of the cables in the vicinity of the plot, specifies whether it is an underground cable or overhead line, and defines the scope of the protective zone. This also covers the conditions under which you may work within the zone: typically requiring manual excavation and marking out of the route before starting work. The validity period of the statement is stated on the document; for submission to the building authority, it must be valid at the time the application is submitted.
Differences compared to ČEZ Distribution
From the builder's perspective, the main difference lies in where the application is submitted: a different portal, a different form, and a different team handling it. However, the nature of the utility network statement remains similar: a drawing of the utilities, information on the protection zone, and the conditions under which you may work near it. If your plot lies close to the boundary between EG.D and ČEZ Distribuce territories, for example, on the border between South Bohemia and Central Bohemia. It may be worth verifying both options before submitting your application. This will prevent unnecessary waiting for a response from the wrong recipient and avoid having to resubmit your request.
How we can help you
You do not need to find out yourself whether EG.D, ČEZ Distribuce or PREdistribuce is the relevant distributor for your plot. Simply provide us with the parcel and cadastral territory. We will verify the correct distributor, submit applications on behalf of all other relevant authorities and hand over a complete package of utility network statements together.
Are you unsure who needs to provide a utility network statement for the plot of land?
We will identify all relevant authorities for you, including the correct electricity distributor, and obtain statements from all of them at once.
